Project Description
The Triangle Transit Authority (TTA) was responsible for the Project. The Project consisted of regional rail service from Durham to downtown Raleigh, utilizing the existing North Carolina Railroad and CSX Transportation railroad right-of-way. The total length of the project was 28.1 miles. The project included 12 stations, linking Durham, Research Triangle Park, Morrisville, Cary, Raleigh, and North Raleigh. The system intended to connect residential areas; major employment areas, including downtown business districts and the Research Triangle Park; RDU International Airport via shuttle; three major universities; and sports and entertainment destinations. The service would use exclusive railroad tracks located adjacent to the existing tracks and operate articulated, bi-directional, diesel-powered multiple units (DMUs).

SG&A Scope of Work/Challenges
Steve Greene & Associates was contracted with Triangle Transit for a wide variety of program management services. One such task included participation in a value engineering exercise.

The Value Engineering exercise on this Project was very comprehensive and included the following study areas:

Yard and Shop
Stations

The results of the Value Engineering analysis were significant and utilized by TTA to reduce Project costs while maintaining the goals of the Project.
