PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Project Manager, West Valley LRT Project, West Valley City, UT

Project Description
The project was a 5-mile light rail extension with five station platforms, one park and ride facility, and four bridges connecting West Valley City to UTA’s mainline light rail system at 2100 South. The most notable bridge was a 780-foot long bridge over a UPRR rail yard with a curved 330-foot long span supporting both light rail and pedestrian/bike trail facilities. The bridge embankments entailed the use of geofoam blocks to reduce settlement and accelerate construction.

SG&A Scope of Work/Challenges
From June 2006 to June 2008, SG&A provided the design management and administration for the West Valley LRT Project including the final environmental stage, preliminary engineering, and final design with Steve Greene serving as the design project manager. Similar to the Airport LRT Project <LINK>, the UTA procured this project as a CM/GC project. This project is scheduled to be in revenue service August 2011.

Success Story
This Project was hugely successful despite the complexity of the Project. The design work was accomplished on schedule and under budget.
