West Valley City Master Transportation Plan – Technical Support, West Valley City, Utah

Project Description
West Valley City, in a mode of expansion, requested consultant services to develop a Transportation Master Plan for the City including the City’s future development. The Project evaluated all major transportation corridors City-wide using modeling with specific focus on the proposed City Center; a location that would ultimately have an intermodal hub for local bus routes, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), and light rail, amongst major east/west and north/south arterial routes.

SG&A Scope of Work/Challenges
Steve Greene & Associates, as a subconsultant, participated on the West Valley City (Utah) Master Transportation Plan. SG&A’s involvement on the project focused on the transit elements of the plan including bus systems, light rail extensions, and the West Valley City Intermodal Hub. Additionally, SG&A provided technical writing support in the preparation of the final plan.

Success Story
The interface of traffic, light rail, and bus routes were explored extensively with many ideas at the City Center vetted. The Project was successful with the delivery of the Transportation Plan on schedule and under budget.
UPDATE: Six years after the study, the development the City anticipated occurred in the City Center area, the intermodal hub is in service and is supporting both local bus traffic and UTA’s first BRT line, and the West Valley LRT Project has been constructed.
