PEER REVIEWS TARC Peer Review, Louisville, KY
Project Description
The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) initiated a project called the South Central Corridor Light Rail Project. This project included a 14-mile double track light rail system running primarily in the north-south direction connecting the Gene Snyder Freeway (south) to downtown Louisville (north) with an easterly mid-alignment serving the Louisville International Airport, Six Flags, and the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center. The vehicle storage yard and maintenance facility was planned in the mid-alignment area providing an opportunity to streamline the main alignment. There were 28 proposed stations, 10 of which were established stations, with 18 stops in the downtown. The alignment had a significant number of aerial structures and ballasted trackwork south of the downtown with embedded track in the downtown area.
